Articles, essays, commentary by investigative journalist, Jonathan Salinas
Welcome to my Newsletter by me, Jonathan Salinas!
I’m an investigative journalist based in the Rio Grande Valley, covering the intersection between immigration and the class struggle. I’ve written for a number of regional and national news outlets since 2015, including the Brownsville Herald, Rio Grande Guardian, RGVision Magazine, Neta, the Progressive, and a number of nonprofit organizations.
I’ve been on the other side of the camera and the voice-recorder, from time to time, as an activist taking part in anti-police brutality, anti-border wall and anti-deportation demonstrations across South Texas and the country.
I’m a native and life-long resident of the RGV, and studied psychology and philosophy at the University of Texas - Pan American (now UTRGV). I have a passion for the outdoors, especially witnessing for the unique and wonderful biodiversity of our river and its habitat.
As a philosophical and political Marxist, I apply dialectical materialism and a Marxist view of political economy to the brutalities exhibited by the U.S. capitalist state against undocumented workers in the RGV, as well as the attacks waged by local capitalists and their middle class apologists against the RGV working class.
